Comparing Dark Mirror to Equestria Girls (Spoiler)

Before I begin I would like to clarify why I say spoilers for both of these, for those who did not follow the online story go here biosector01.com/wiki/index.php… to read Dark Mirror also Watch Equestia Girls either on youtube or buy it to support the show. First I shall start with the plots of these two; Dark Mirror is the final leg in Takanuva's journey to get to Karda Nui with important information. In this story he appears to be back in Metru Nui but sees Toa Mata Tahu and Kopaka and things get stranger from then on. Equestria Girls is the story of Twilight going to an alternate world where everyone is human and she must get her Crown back from Celestia's Fallen student, Sunset Shimmer.

So why am I comparing the two that are so very different? Well both stories are about a character searching for something, be it a way home or reclaiming what was stolen from them. Where they differ is who they were written for and the media that they were released in. Dark Mirror was original a podcast that was later posted on biosector01.com/wiki/index.php… for those who could not download it, while Equestira Girls is a film with a preset runtime. Both went through the process of writing and voice acting, granted the budgets are very different, but Dark Mirror was better written for it's audiances as to Equestria Girls. By this I mean Dark Mirror was made with the bionicle fans in mind, which at the time were mostly teenage boys, while as much as most fans hate to admit it Equestria Girls was meant to be a catch all for film goers while having easter eggs for us older fans.

Now here is a reason I believe Equestria Girls is so meh to a lot of fans, there was now build up to it. For Dark Mirror we've had several references in other works for the year but in previous year, be it under the radar or bluntly. Tuyet was mentioned in the second bionicle Movie and in the Mahri we learn her back story and why she was in the pit, we also had a fan work based on the information written and made cannon. With Sunset Shimmer we did get a comic about her but that was after the movie came out. We knew about her a good half a year and there was nothing but what fans thought her story was. This was a miss planning for the team, because this would have made us more invested in her and might have made the movie better. Now why am I comparing this two aside from the obverse of they are the main bad girls of their respected tales.

Tuyet is a toa of water who went mad with power of the Nui stone and killed matoran while Sunset is a fallen student after she let her own abilities and vision of her becoming an alicorn cause her to search for that power. They also used a powerful object to farther their ideas and acted to stop the protagonist of the story. Back to what brought up this thought, traveling into other dimensions leaves endless possibilities be it one that makes everything change or some thing that was minor cause history to change.

For what they are worth Equestia Girls and Dark Mirror paint the alternate worlds well and how the characters act is interesting. Twilight sees that friendships are hard to break no matter who tries to do it, while Takanuva sees that even heroes can fall and the enemy of your enemy is your friend.
